Popular SoNo Restaurant Celebrates its 10th Anniversary New Ownership Recharges the Oishi Sushi & Izakaya Experience
August 21, 2024, Norwalk, CT: In 2014, Oishi Sushi and Izakaya introduced its Japanese restaurant concept to South Norwalk, further enhancing the eclectic dining scene in the Washington Street Historic District. Original owner Chris Chen opened this upscale sushi bar and Izakaya (Japanese pub) in 2014. He introduced locals to a more modern Japanese dining style, which included creative cocktails, local craft beer, Asian-inspired entrees, and house-made desserts.
Oishi Sushi & Izakaya will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in October 2024, and it will do so with new owners at the helm. Seasoned Restaurateurs Vicky Gao, who also owns Osaka Restaurant in Queens, NY, and the team of Peter Lu and Hui Lin, who owns Chochosan Sushi and Hibachi and Chochosan Noodle House in Nanuet, NY, are carrying on the name and the stellar reputation Oishi has earned over the years and infusing their own enhanced menu and beverage elements from their joint year of experience in the Japanese restaurant space.
Menu highlights include Oishi’s signature sushi art and specialty rolls that begin with sushi grade market fresh fish. Customer favorites include yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and yuzu ponzu, the “Incredible Roll” of tuna and avocado, topped with tuna, salmon, eel, tempura crunch, tobiko, and eel sauce, and the “Oishi Roll” made with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado, and asparagus, topped with seared tuna, salmon, scallion, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce.
Mouthwatering appetizers include crispy duck spring rolls, pan-seared pork or vegetable dumplings, and Angus beef stuffed wontons with a sweet chili dipping sauce. Entrées run the gamut from pan-seared sesame-crusted tuna steak served with sautéed soba noodles and vegetables to the Oishi Surf and Turf with a grilled NY strip steak and jumbo shrimp laced with a garlic shallot teriyaki. The shrimp and chicken pad Thai noodles and Oishi’s Big Bowl Ramen with baby bok choy, seaweed, scallions, enoki mushrooms, and soft-boiled egg in a miso broth (choose chicken/pork/shrimp) are also among Oishi’s bold, flavorful, warming dishes. And let’s not forget the tempura fried ice cream for dessert!
The beverage program at Oishi is just as creative and inspiring as the menu. A large selection of Japanese whiskey, sake, and craft cocktails are offered, along with Asian beer and global wine selections. Favorites include the Blue Ocean Bowl for 2, made with light rum, passion fruit vodka, peach schnapps, blue curacao, and pineapple juice, and the Oishi Saketini shaken with premium vodka, premium sake, and a dash of Blue Curacao.
